ASTM A247 evaluates the microstructure of graphite in iron castings by comparison with standard reference charts. Graphite type (I–VII), distribution (A–E) and size number (1–8) are determined. It is widely requested for castings produced to ASTM specifications and for export.
The test is performed with a method accredited by TÜRKAK under TS EN ISO/IEC 17025 (ASTM A247); results are issued as an accredited test report.
Determined Values
- Graphite type (I–VII)
- Graphite distribution (A–E)
- Graphite size number (1–8)
Applied Standard
- ASTM A247 – Standard test method for evaluating the microstructure of graphite in iron castings
Specimens and Reporting
The specimen is cut, mounted, ground, polished and, where needed, etched with a suitable reagent in our laboratory (ASTM E3). Examination is done with a metallurgical microscope and image analysis software; results are reported with scaled micrographs.
