The eye bolt pull test checks that eye bolts and lifting eyes fitted to products such as motor housings, moulds or machine parts withstand the lifting load. The eye is pulled axially while fitted to its part or to a suitable fixture.
The test can be done in two ways: loading to the specified force and checking for damage (pass/fail), or pulling until fracture or permanent deformation.
Determined Values
- Maximum applied force
- Damage, cracking or permanent deformation at the specified load
- On request, breaking load and failure location
Specimens
Where possible, eye bolts should be sent with the part they are used on, or with a mating part of the same thread and material.
