The shear (tensile-shear) test determines the force that spot, seam and projection welds in lap-joined sheets can carry. The lap specimen is pulled from both ends and the force is recorded until the weld separates in shear.
The test is performed with a method accredited by TÜRKAK under TS EN ISO/IEC 17025 (EN ISO 14273); results are issued as an accredited test report. It is used for weld parameter approval and production control in automotive, trailer, white goods and sheet metal industries.
Determined Values
- Maximum tensile-shear force
- Failure mode (plug failure, interfacial failure)
- Weld nugget diameter
Applied Standard
- EN ISO 14273 – Resistance welding, destructive testing of welds: specimen dimensions and procedure for tensile shear testing of spot, seam and projection welds
