Carbon and sulphur are determined by combustion, and oxygen and nitrogen by inert gas fusion. Even at low levels these elements affect toughness, weldability and ageing behaviour of steel; nitrogen in particular is critical in stainless, duplex and microalloyed steels.
The test is performed with a method accredited by TÜRKAK under TS EN ISO/IEC 17025 (ASTM E1019); results are issued as an accredited test report.
Elements Determined
- Carbon (C)
- Sulphur (S)
- Oxygen (O)
- Nitrogen (N)
Materials
- Steels and cast irons
- Nickel and cobalt alloys
Applied Standard
- ASTM E1019 – Determination of carbon, sulphur, nitrogen and oxygen in steel, iron, nickel and cobalt alloys by various combustion and inert gas fusion techniques
Specimens
Specimens should be sent as chips, pieces or pins with a clean, degreased surface. The required amount and form are given at the quotation stage.
