The metal tensile test determines the yield and tensile strength, ductility and stress–strain behaviour of a metallic material. A flat or round test piece of standard geometry is prepared from the material and pulled to fracture at a controlled rate. Results are used to verify material certificate values (EN 10204 3.1) and for material acceptance.
The test is performed with a method accredited by TÜRKAK under TS EN ISO/IEC 17025 (EN ISO 6892-1, ASTM E8/E8M, ASTM A370); results are issued as an accredited test report. Tests are run on computer-controlled universal testing machines with 600 kN and 100 kN capacity.
Determined Values
- Yield strength (ReH, ReL, Rp0.2)
- Tensile strength (Rm)
- Elongation after fracture (A, A50, A80)
- Reduction of area (Z)
- Stress–strain curve
Applied Standards
- EN ISO 6892-1 – Metallic materials, tensile testing at room temperature
- ASTM E8/E8M – Tension testing of metallic materials
- ASTM A370 – Mechanical testing of steel products
Specimen Types
- Sheet and plate (flat test pieces)
- Sections, tubes and bars
- Castings and forgings
- Rail and railway axle/wheel material (specimen preparation EN 13674-1, EN 13261, EN 13262)
On request, test pieces are machined in our laboratory to the geometry required by the standard.
