X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry determines the chemical composition of nickel-base alloys by measuring the characteristic radiation emitted by atoms excited with X-rays. Measurements are made on an instrument calibrated with certified reference materials. It is used for grade verification and certificate checks on alloys such as Inconel, Incoloy, Hastelloy and Monel.
Main Elements Analysed
- Ni, Cr, Fe, Mo, Co, Cu
- Nb, Ti, Al, W, Mn, Si
- The element list depends on the alloy and the relevant standard
Applied Standard
- ASTM E2465 – Analysis of Ni-base alloys by wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry
Specimens
The analysis surface must be flat; specimens are cut and the surface is ground in our laboratory. Results are reported in mass percent (%) and, on request, compared with the limits of the material standard or certificate.
