Welding procedure qualification proves that the manufacturer's preliminary welding procedure specification (pWPS) produces welds with the required mechanical properties and quality. A test piece is welded to the standard and subjected to non-destructive and destructive tests. If the results conform, a welding procedure qualification record (WPQR / PQR) is issued and the approved WPSs can be used in production.
The service is carried out within the scope for which MEKATEST is accredited by TÜRKAK as a Type A inspection body under TS EN ISO/IEC 17020 (AB-0873-M). As a Type A inspection body we work as an independent third party, separate from both manufacturer and purchaser.
Procedure
- Review of the pWPS and material certificates
- Witnessing the welding of the test piece and recording parameters such as current, voltage, travel speed, preheat and interpass temperature
- Non-destructive testing: visual, penetrant / magnetic particle, radiographic or ultrasonic testing
- Destructive testing: tensile, bend, impact, macro examination and hardness (in our accredited laboratory)
- Evaluation of results to the relevant standard
- Issue of the WPQR (PQR) and approval of WPSs within the range of qualification
Standards in the Accreditation Scope
- EN ISO 15614-1, -2, -3, -4, -6, -8, -11 – Welding procedure test
- EN ISO 15613 – Qualification based on pre-production welding test
- EN ISO 11970 – Qualification of welding procedures for production welding of steel castings
- AD 2000 Merkblatt HP 2/1 – Welding procedure qualification for pressure vessels
- ASME Sec. IX – Welding and brazing qualifications
- AWS D1.1 / D1.5 / D1.6 – Structural welding of steel, bridges and stainless steel
- API 1104 – Welding of pipelines and related facilities
Deliverables
Approved WPQR (PQR), non-destructive and destructive test reports, and approved WPSs. Please state the applicable standard, base material, welding process and thickness range in your request.
